A beacon lighting ceremony to mark the 80th Anniversary of D-Day will take place on Thursday 6 June 2024 at 9.15pm.

Eight decades ago, Operation Overlord saw over 4,000 ships and landing craft deliver more than 125,000 Allied troops on five beaches in Normandy in northern France in an action that would bring about the liberation of France, and the rest of Western Europe, from Nazi Germany and the Axis powers, and laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front and the end the Second World War in September 1945.

To commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for the freedom we enjoy today, beacons will be lit around the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.

When lit, the beacon will represent the ‘light of peace’ that emerged from the darkness of war.

Stock Cricket Club will be open to serve drinks and snacks and to provide toilets and changing facilities.

Fish and chips will be available from a van from 7.30pm, with National Fish and Chip Day moving from its traditional Friday slot to coincide with the D-Day celebrations.
