A12 to be closed overnight near Stock for LED street lighting upgrade

Phase Two of a scheme to upgrade LED street lighting on the A12 near Stock is taking place over the next three weeks.

Sections of the A12 will be closed overnight for a number of nights in January for LED street lighting upgrades to be carried out.

The work will be carried out between Junctions 11 (Brook Street) and 16 (Stock Road) as part of a National Highways project to reduce carbon emissions from roadside lighting.

LED lights are better for the environment and use far less energy to produce the same amount of light. They also last longer and require less maintenance, meaning fewer road closures to fix lighting in the future and more importantly, safer roads for everyone.

Phase One was carried out in December, with Phase Two starting on Tuesday 7 January 2025, with work scheduled overnight between 9pm-5am on weeknights, weather permitting, to minimise disruption to road users:

  • 9pm to 5am, Tuesday 7 January to Saturday 11 January inclusive – Southbound A12 closed between Junction 12 (Mountnessing Roundabout) and Junction 11 (Brook Street), with a diversion along the A1023 through Brentwood.
  • 9am to 5am, Monday 13 January and Tuesday 14 January – Northbound A12 closed between Junction 12 (Mountnessing Roundabout) and Junction 14 (Furze Hill), with a diversion along the B1002 (Roman Road) through Mountnessing, Ingatestone and Margaretting, rejoining at Junction 15 (Webb’s Farm).
  • 9pm to 5am, Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 January inclusive – the southbound exit slip road at Junction 12 (Mountnessing Roundabout) will be closed.
  • 9pm to 5am, Thursday 16 to Tuesday 21 January inclusive – the southbound entry slip road at Junction 12 (Mountnessing Roundabout) will be closed.
  • 9pm to 5am, Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 January – the northbound entry slip road at Junction 15 (Webb’s Farm) will be closed.
  • 9pm to 5am, Friday 24 to Tuesday 28 January inclusive – the northbound exit slip road at Junction 12 (Mountnessing Roundabout) will be closed.
