Stock Parish Council has been deeply saddened by the passing of Councillor Ian Grundy.
A family man, resident of the village for over 30 years and former player for Stock Cricket Club, and an instantly recognisable and friendly face, Ian represented Stock on Chelmsford City Council from 2003 and Essex County Council from 2011 until his death. He served as the County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways from 2017 to 2018, and the City Council as Cabinet Member for Safer Communities.
Ian regularly attended Stock Parish Council meetings and supported the village and villagers by raising issues relating to Stock at the County and City Councils.
Stock Parish Council Chairman Paul Fenwick paid tribute to his long-time colleague and friend at the Parish Council’s meeting on Tuesday 12 November, where a minute’s silence was held in Ian’s memory.
He said: “Ian was first elected as Stock ward councillor in 2003 and served as a Cabinet Member on both councils to which he was elected. As Cabinet Member for Safer Communities on Chelmsford Council, he was influential in improving car parking, introducing the Park & Ride scheme and many other capital projects, including the new civic reception.
“Throughout his time as a councillor, he worked tirelessly for the residents of Stock. Ian was very well liked and a regular face in village and always gave his full support to Stock Parish Council.
“Ian will be missed by all of us and we thank him for the amount of time and energy he spent with us and advising the Parish Council on various matters.
“Our sincerest condolences to Ian’s family, especially his wife, Shirlee, and two children, Dean and Louisa, at this sad time.”
